A big jump in content and quality has arrived. The v0.7.0 update for Ten Thousand Coins begins the final push for improving features and rolling in all the content for the game. Let's break them down:

Coin System Update

The coin system has been through multiple iterations throughout the course of development, from the main currency used to buy/sell, into simply a progression system with the implementation of the barter system, and now, one final update to fill the gaps and mend the flaws of the previous iterations.

The player now carries coins as shown here on the update UI. Coins are still produced by depositing goods into your Coin Chest (unchanged), however, milestones are now automatically met and deposited as long as you carry enough coins by the due date.

Traders now also accept coins, and you can purchase goods directly with coins (as you were able to in earlier Ten Thousand Coins builds). However, purchasing goods with coins will net you a loss, as you will be paying more coins for what the goods it worth (and if you deposit the good into your Coin Chest, you will end up with fewer coins). Using coins to purchase goods should therefore only be used in desperate / survival situations (e.g. no goods to barter for food).

Guilds and Upgrades

The upgrade system has been improved and iterated on once more. Much of the old system of requiring certain goods to make each upgrade remains the same, however, the upgrades themselves have been changed and sorted into Guilds.

Much like the Merchants' Guild, other guilds are an association of skilled individuals in a certain craft. The guilds implemented are:

  • The Artisans Guild: skilled in smithing and crafting. They handle wagon upgrades and are able to repair your wagon for a cost/donation.
  • The Fighters Guild: a collection of warriors and mercenaries, can teach your merchant various combat upgrades.
  • The Explorers Guild: adventurers and travelers, can teach you various survival and etiquette upgrades for wherever you travel to.
The repair system now accepts any goods for repair (as they are now a donation to the Artisans Guild), but the Artisans Guild prefers Material goods, which will yield a greater reward for repair.

Wilderness Encounter

Big improvements were made to the wilderness encounter system according to the playtesting feedback.

The old encounter system relied on a complete RNG system for which events you would encounter. The new algorithm now tracks how long it's been since you last encountered a hostile event, modifying your encounter rate until it's been some time since your last hostile encounter. This improvement makes sure you are not bombarded with hostiles simply due to bad luck, or trade peacefully for an over-extended period due to good luck.

Day and Night cycles now have an effect on encounter rate as well. Traveling at night is now more dangerous than daytime, increasing your hostile encounter rate.

Convoy System

The convoy system has been further improved from the previous build. Convoys that populate taverns are now randomly generated, each with a different class and fee. The different classes have yet to be finalised, but here are some examples of the classes:

Sharpshooter (Never misses)
An expert with precise aim, this convoy will never miss an attack in combat

Companion (+ duration)
A loyal convoy that will follow your crew for an additional day

Explorer (better foraging chance)
Member of the Explorers Guild, increases the chance for a successful forage

Alchemist (apply DoT on attack)
Will poison enemies in combat with their newest concoction

Other Updates

The Journey system has been updated with the current narrative, as well as a new UI for better readability.

New character art assets are constantly being produced. Some previews below:
