GameMaker Studio 2 Porting and 60 Native FPS

Ten Thousand Coins has been developed on GameMaker Studio 1.4 up until this point. The shift to GameMaker Studio 2 was made due to surprisingly good results from testing the game build on their free trial.

Porting the project over the GameMaker Studio 2 has been relatively stress-free, only requiring to update compatibility codes and getting used to the new UI.

Pushing the game up to a native 60 fps was also made to improve player-experience as previously the game was locked at 30 FPS.

World Map and Event System

The old event system has been overhauled. Now random events are localised at each wilderness section, with around 2 or 3 events happening at any one time. Events can be one-time (e.g. abandoned wreckage) or continuous (e.g. fog).

The world map UI has also been updated to show these new events on the map, as well as more details on each settlement.

Monkey Encounter and Content Update

A bunch of new content also was added to this build, including an updated monkey encounter event to suit the third-person point of view.

An early-stage version of this build was showcased at the Auckland Chromacon Event back in June. The event was great and we gained valuable feedback from all the playtest feedback.
