Art and Code Update - Slow Progress

Hey y'alls,

Haven't blogged about my progress in a while, sorry about that.

Ten Thousand Coin have been moving slow, but steady so far. I haven't been as motivated or on to it as I'd have hoped for the past 2 weeks, but I can feel my momentum is slowly picking in speed.

Progress I have made so far from my last post:

  • Redesigned part of the main gameplay, removing the time limited milestones on coin collection. Instead I added in a new mechanic which the player cannot stay too long within 1 town, preventing farming at the same spot. Narrative context for this: the mafia families!
  • Speaking of mafia, the narrative have mostly been chosen and now just fine tuning the details.
  • Current elevator pitch: "You play as a merchant crew consisting of a pigtailed girl and polar bear man, trying to earn 10,000 gold coins to leave the country while being hunted by different mafia families."
  • Implemented a new dialog system, using "CTB - Ced's Textbox Demo" off the YoYo Marketplace. Working much better, and has much more functionality than the old default dialog system. Link: https://marketplace.yoyogames.com/assets/2195/ctb-ced-s-textbox-demo
  • Main character concepts, merchant girl almost done, polar bear WIP.
  • UI concepts, first iteration mock up (will be continuously improved upon):

Currently need to work on:
  • Finishing off character concepts, polish them enough for in-game sprites.
  • Fully incorporate the new dialog system with the rest of the code (currently still has the issue of disabling interacting with other objects during dialog)
  • Implement the mafia system in town, where entering the same town too often results in increased "heat" or "recognition" level, increasing the change to encounter mafia members, which will result in almost certain defeat.
  • Start design on the narrative world, the different town and resident NPCs in them.
  • Start on environment art and enemy art concepts.
See yas next post~
